MTN Airtime hacker finally caught

KEMPTON PARK - A Russian man age 34, has been arrested in his hideout in Kempton Park. He is alleged to have stolen millions from telecommunications giant MTN.

Police say he has been hacking into MTN's system and redeeming airtime vouchers to the tune of R50 million since 2011

The Hawks swooped on the man's hideout in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

After months of investigation, officials finally tracked down the suspected kingpin.

Paul Ramaloko, Hawks Spokesperson said, "We've been working with MTN on this investigation for a period of over two years."

The suspect is in the country illegally his passport expired in 2009.

Authorities say they don't know how many others are involved in the hacking network. But are continuing with investigations and hope to make more arrests soon.

The man is due to appear in the Johannesburg Specialised Crimes Court on Thursday.
